The Cairo International Airport is one of Africa’s largest and busiest airports. Also, Operated by Cairo Airport Authority the Cairo International Airport is the international gateway to El Cairo and other areas in Egypt and the World. Cairo Airport is located in the north-eastern corner of the city of Cairo about 15 kilometers from the heart of the City’s business area. This is the largest Airport in Egypt. There are more than 65 airlines using the airport, as well as 9 cargo and charter airlines. So, Egypt Air has the largest chunk of operations in the airport taking up to 61 percent of all departure slots. After Egypt Air was assimilated into the lucrative Star Alliance carrier, Cairo Airport has been poised to be the chief hub of major destinations from Africa, Europe and the Middle East, since it has A380 facilities among other major utilities.

En 2009, el Aeropuerto de El Cairo pudo atender a unos 14,4 millones de pasajeros, un aumento porcentual considerable con respecto al año anterior. También manejó alrededor de 143.000 movimientos de aeronaves en el mismo año, también un aumento estratégico con respecto al año anterior. El tonelaje de carga aérea que pasaba por el aeropuerto era de unas 275.000. En medio de estas estadísticas, el Aeropuerto de El Cairo aún ocupa el segundo lugar en África en términos de actividad aeroportuaria activa. En 2011 ocupó el puesto número 82 entre los mejores Aeropuertos del Mundo.

Hay 3 Terminals en el aeropuerto internacional de El Cairo: la terminal 1 o el edificio del antiguo aeropuerto. la Terminal 2 (La nueva Terminal), y la Terminal 3 del Nuevo Edificio Aeropuerto. Además de Tehre, está la terminal de Mawassam (.Salet Mawassem o The Seasonal Terminal) que sirve solo los vuelos de peregrinación durante la temporada de Hege o el tiempo de peregrinación.
