Half Day Sightseeing in Coptic District in Cairo, known as Old Cairo. Pick up from your hotel in Cairo. After that you will be driven to visit the Old Cairo Churches, the historical and most ancient churches and monasteries area in Coptic Egypt. You will start with the amazing Virgin Mary Church that known as the Hanging Church. It dates back to the 3rd century AD and was built upon two old towers of the Roman Babylon Fortress. The Hanging Church contains 7 alters and about 110 icons.
Then, you will visit the Greek Church of St. George, built first time in the 10th century and was restored various times, the current structure was rebuilt 1904. Continue to visit Abu Serga Church, known also as Saint Sergius Church, from the 4th Century, one of the eldest churches in Egypt, and famous by the Holy Family Cave where they sheltered during their journey to Egypt.
In the same street of Mar Girgis we will visit St. Barbara Church, a basilica style that dating back to the 5th century. It is known for its many precious items that most of them were transferred to the Coptic Museum. Visit the ancient Synagogue Ben Ezra, one of the Oldest synagogues in Cairo.
In the end of the Tour You will visit the Coptic Museum, 8000 square meter Building, founded in 1908, housing the largest collection of Egyptian Christian artifacts in the world. The objects or the Coptic museum are classified into different sections; such as stonework, woodwork, metalwork, textiles and manuscripts. Return back to your hotel in Cairo.
